Nick has extensive experience advising senior executives on strategy, regulation and competition issues in the communications, video and media sectors. Nick has worked with service providers, investors, and government agencies to assess the market for new opportunities, anticipate competitive challenges, increase marketing effectiveness, implement new technology, and evaluate potential mergers and acquisitions. Since 1999, Nick has led nearly 300 consulting projects for his clients. He has conducted due diligence of new business models across the world, including in Haiti, Brazil, Mexico, India, Japan, China, Martinique, Spain, Germany, and other countries. He has participated in numerous regulatory proceedings either as a direct witness or in support of direct witness testimony; issues included the TRO, TRRO, major ILEC mergers, special access pricing flexibility, and others.. Nick is on the Board of Directors of several private companies, and, until recently, was also on the Board of Directors of iPCS, prior to its sale to Sprint in 2009. He serves as Treasurer for the Caring for Carcinoid Foundation, the leading non-profit foundation dedicated to discovering a cure for carcinoid cancer, and is Chair of the Advisory Committee for the (MS)2 program at Phillips Academy in Andover, MA. Ed has a 20 year track record leading strategy and management consulting projects in the converged communications, technology, and digital media industries. Ed works with technology companies, service providers, investors, regulators and industry stakeholders to assess markets, develop growth strategies and drive operational improvements. Prior to joining CMA, Ed led the North American Strategy practice at Cartesian and before that was a Vice President at CSMG where he led strategy and management consulting projects in the communications and technology sectors. Ed started his career working in Europe in quantitative market research and has worked on projects evaluating growth opportunities and investments in markets around the world. Ed has spoken at many industry conferences and has been quoted in financial publications such as Fortune. Ed graduated cum laude with a degree in Economics from Bates College and hails originally from California.
Brian is an accomplished, results-driven business professional. He possesses over 20 years of experience assisting senior management and their investors in the technology, telecom and Internet infrastructure sectors. Brian primarily advises his clients with corporate strategy development, investment targeting and due diligence, revenue enhancements, product innovation and market expansion. Brian is a trusted advisor and a recognized thought leader in the Internet Infrastructure ecosystem. He works extensively with fiber operators, colocation providers and managed hosting and cloud computing service providers both domestically and abroad on product, marketing and growth strategies. He is an expert in market demand and segmentation (SMB, Enterprise, Verticals), as well as industry consolidation having completed over $10B in due diligence assignments on Internet infrastructure providers. Prior to joining CMA in 2010, Brian held various operational and consulting roles in the TMT space. He served as a manager at Altman Vilandrie & Co. and CSMG where his responsibilities included leading and managing corporate strategy and development engagements for wireline, wireless, cable and data center providers and their investors. Brian holds a Masters of Business Administration from Yale University and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Boston College, where he graduated with honors.
William Balsham has over 15 years of operating and consulting experience in telecommunications. He has worked with numerous carriers and investors on strategy consulting engagements and has held management roles in finance and strategy at two carriers. Will’s domain expertise includes cable, OTT video, data centers and wireless. Will’s experience in wireless communications began in 1996 in the first FCC spectrum auctions where he built a web site to track the auction results and co-authored an article on the results of the A and B Block PCS auction. Will then refined the auction tracking tools into a product that was used by bidders in numerous spectrum auctions in the U.S. and Mexico. Will was also instrumental in developing the voice product for one of the top cable companies. Prior to CMA, Will was an engagement manager at CSMG and prior to that he was an engagement manager at Altman Vilandrie, another strategy consulting company focused on telecommunications. Earlier in his career, Will worked for two carriers, Teligent and Broadview Networks. At Broadview, Will was a Vice President in the Finance organization. He has a degree in Economics from Brown University.
Over the past fifteen years Jim has been a trusted advisor to senior executives and investors in emerging and industry-leading communications, media, and technology companies. Prior to joining CMA, Jim was a senior partner at Oliver Wyman where he delivered key strategy projects for some of the largest network communications service providers in North America and Europe. He is an established industry expert who is frequently quoted in such publications as the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and Business Week. Prior to his consulting career, Jim was an operator, investor, and partner in Benchmark Associates, a Boston-based M&A and investment boutique. Jim has a twenty year track record as an active early-stage investor and entrepreneur with several successful startups and turnarounds to his credit. He has a BS degree in from MIT, and an MBA from Harvard. Jim is on the Board of the New England Aquarium, the Advisory Board of the Technology Capital Network, and is a member of the angel fund, Walnut Ventures.
Micah is an experienced consultant for telecommunications and IT firms, investors and trade organizations serving the telecommunications and IT markets. Prior to joining CMA in 2017, Micah was a principal at Cartesian, where he led or participated in more than 50 engagements helping clients develop corporate growth strategies, conduct due diligence on acquisition targets, assess the impacts of regulatory policy and forecast the evolution of telecommunications markets. Micah brings to his work the unique perspective and skills developed during a 10-year career as a journalist for newspapers, magazines and web publications including The Boston Globe and Indiewire. Micah has a B.A. from Georgetown and an M.A. in film studies from New York University. In his free time, Micah cooks, runs, scuba dives and (just barely) plays guitar.
